One of the most significant and memorable art-events of the year undoubtedly was the “Me is not Me” retrospective of Boris Mikhailov’s works. Jumbo PR&BTL Agency is proud of being honored to provide PR-support to the birthday celebration of the worldwide known artist in Kiev.
Within Kiev retrospective, Boris Mikhailov himself represented four monumental works of the provocative series, “Me is not Me” which shocked the world in 1995 but were prohibited to be exhibited in Ukraine. The exhibition dedicated to the birthday of the photo art master was joined by his students. Ilia Chichkan introduced remake series of Polaroid self-portraits “Me is not Me 2”. Nikolai Ridny, Stas Voliazlovsky, and Sergei Popov, representatives of “SOSka” Kharkov art-group, participants of the “BOB-fest” in Kharkov introduced video and photo and the waffle-linen-based project to the public. The only oil painting was presented by Alexandr Gnilitsky of his “ZKH” series.
Boris Mikhailov is complex and unusual person whose photos haven’t been always adequately accepted by the public. Nevertheless the opening ceremony of the exhibition was attended by representatives of leading social political, business, and life-style publishing companies, as well as shooting groups of three TV channels, namely the “Novy Canal”, TRC “Kiev” and “K2” and several interviews of Boris Mikhailov for such respected titles as “Afisha”, “Commersant”, “Contracty”, and “Delo” have also been organized.
Olga Kovtun, Director of Jumbo PR&BTL Agency says: “Boris Mikhailov has always been famous for his openness and provocations, and to exhibit his works is an honor for all the prestige art-sites of the world. Despite this, Mikhailov has not always been correctly perceived by the Ukrainian public and moreover, “Me is not Me” series was even prohibited for exhibition in 1995 because of its “lack of principles”.
Opening of Kiev exhibition and Mikhailov coming himself is like Paul McCartney’s concert but with much more complicated implication. We faced difficult task to attract attention to one of the world’s best photographers at his Motherland, to draw public’s attention to his works and their sense. We succeeded with this task and the evidence of our success in the number and quality of the reviews in media.”
